Sgt. Courtney was a lifelong resident of Macon and attended Central Georgia Technical College and Barstow College, Barstow, CA. He joined the U.S. Marines in 1998. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievent Medal, the National Defense Medal and the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Cindy (Jacobs) Courtney; his children, Kellie Marie, 4, and Robert Logan Courtney, 4; two brothers, Sgt. Donovan Eugene Courtney, USMC, Ft. Meade, Columbia, MD and Robert Joseph Fernandez; his grandparents, John and Janess Bostick Harrell; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
