Jacob was the 7th son and 9th child born to William and Mary K. (LEE) McADAMS. Jacob being the seventh son, it was thought that the 7th son had special healing powers. People would bring their children to him to be cured of their ills by breathing into their throats. He didn’t believe this himself, but would do it to please them. Jacob He served in the Civil War Union Army Co. “G” 43rd Reg’t MO Vol. Inf., was a member of the G. A. R. He received a pension for his service in the civil War. Five of his six brothers (one having passed away) also served in the Civil War. He died of apoplexy-in his sleep. Buried with Military Honors on Sunday (Mother’s Day) in Orchard Mesa Cemetery, Grand Junction, Mesa, CO. Jacob was married 5 Mar 1876 in Buchanan County, Missouri to Martha Frances FIMPLE, three children were born to them, only one growning to adulthood.

John Wilson McADAMS, a Civil War Veteran Answers Taps
Thinning their ranks one by one, death claimed another hero of the Civil War Tuesday evening. Jacob Wilson McADAMS, residing in the Pear park district, was found dead yesterday morning, when his wife tried to awaken him from sleep. His body was quite cold, death having occurred from apoplexy sometime during the night. He was well known and well liked by his friends and neighbors in that section, being a man of cheerful and pleasent character.
Deceased was born in Terra Haute, Ind., June 19, 1847, being almost 76 years old at the time of his death. He enlisted in Company G. 43rd infantry reserve of the Union army, during the Civil war and served 11 months, seeing active service. A few years after the war he was married to Martha FIMPLE of Buchanan county, Missouri, the ceremony taking place March 5, 1876.
He had resided in Pear park since 1906, moving his family here from Nebraska. He is survived his wife, Martha McADAMS, who resides at the Pear park ranch, and one daughter, Mrs. D. S. THOMAS of Fruita. He was also the father of one other daughter and one son, both of whom are dead. Six grand-daughters also survive. They are Mrs. Archie BLISS and Miss Leona SMITH of this city, Miss Fern SMITH of Delta, Miss Clarice SMITH, attending the university at Pella, Iowa, Lucile and John PORTER, and Corinne THOMAS of Fruita and Roy SMITH of Salt Lake, most of whom will attend the funeral.
Funeral services will be under the supervision of John A. LOGAN post, G. A. R., of which the deceased man was an active member, on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from Krohn chapel.
