He was a life-long member of the Peshtigo Gun Club and an avid supporter of the Peshtigo Community. He enjoyed discussing anything to do with historical events, especially Civil War battles and the Peshtigo Fire (1871). Joseph worked at Badger Paper Mills and was the General Manager of Badger Credit Union for approximately 30 years.
Joseph is survived by four sons: Richard (Laura) and Jerald (Sherry), both of Gainesville, Florida; Tom (Kathleen) of Plain, Wisconsin and Barry of Cheyenne, Wyoming;
a granddaughter, Cara-Lynne of Washington, D.C.;
a brother Elmer Race of Peshtigo; and a sister, Artis Scott of Rockford, Illinois.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Fern Virginia (Harper) Race in 1983 and two brothers, Earl and John.
