Merle L. Krug passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Rolling Hills Health Center. Merle was born in Topeka, KS on July 2, 1935 to Alex and Frances (Hood) Krug.

He married Waneta (Jordan) Krug on October 30, 1953. Together they had two sons, Kevin and Richard.

At that time he was working at Safeway Grocery in North Topeka, but was taking tests to become a mechanic as he loved working with his hands. After passing his mechanics test, he began working for Shawnee Tractor working on farm tractors. Then he moved on to working on the buses at Topeka Transportation. Merle and Waneta divorced in 1968 and he began employment at Essex Wire as a machine mechanic.

In the mid 80 s he began working at Costelow Tower Construction operating winches to work on towers where he joined I.B.O.E. Local #101. In 1990, he began working for Koss Construction, traveling around the state driving a truck. He retired in 1997. During his retirement, Merle continued to work with his hands on friends cars and his own Ford tractor.

Merle is survived by his son, Kevin (Patty) Krug of Topeka; brother, Basil (Sheila) Krug of Topeka; sister, Arlene Weiler of Topeka; daughter-in-law, Rita Krug, of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Bridgitte Wymore, Brandy Krug, Michael Krug and Alex Krug; three great-grandchildren, Justin, Austin, and Lily; lots of nieces and nephews and his loving extended family at Rolling Hills.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Richard Rick.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Rd., Topeka KS 66614. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. and inurnment will follow at Half Day Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice sent in care of the funeral home.
