Celia Ann COCKE was the daughter of John Hortense COCKE and Mary Jane DAVIDSON. She was born 18 SEP 1863 in Mississippi.

On December 13th, 1882, she married Eugene Jones CARRINGTON, the youngest son of Gilbert Paul CARRINGTON and his first wife, Sarah Elizabeth JONES. Marriage bond filed in Tate County, Mississippi for $200, with John CLIFTON, clerk.

2) Adah CARRINGTON (1886-1965)
3) Eugene Jones CARRINGTON III (1886-1945)

By 1883, Celia & Eugene lived in Memphis, Tennessee where he worked as a traveling salesman for Goodbar & Co, per the Memphis City Directories of 1884 - 1887. Celia & Eugene lived in the Peabody Hotel during this time period.

In 1887 Eugene served on the Board of Directors of Memphis National Bank.

In 1890, Eugene was working as the Vice President of Goodbar Shoe Company and housed his family in the Gayoso Hotel (Memphis City Directory).

In 1891, Eugene started his own company, the Carrington Shoe Company.

In 1894, Celia's brother-in-law, Walter CARRINGTON, died of typhoid so her husband took over Walter's position as proprietor of the Exchange Hotel in Richmond, Virginia.

By 1900, Celia & Eugene were back in Memphis.

In July 26th 1902, Celia & her mother attended the execution of Celia's brother, Ashley COCKE, who was hung for murder. Per extensive news coverage of the event... "Condemned Men's Friends. Those of the relatives of COCKE who were in the vicinity were Mrs. E. J. CARRINGTON of Memphis, a sister, and Mrs. COCKE, his aged mother, of Senatobia. His brother, Rennie COCKE, and brother-in-law, E. J. CARRINGTON, refused to be present. Mrs. COCKE and Mrs. CARRINGTON, accompanied by friends, asked permission to view the execution, but were refused." (Woodville, Mississippi 26 JUL 1902 edition)

On September 12th, 1906 Celia lost her fifty-one year old husband , Eugene, to a "lingering illness", per his death notice. He was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery.

On June 10th, 1910, "Mrs. Cecelia A. CARRINGTON married Lux McFADDEN in Shelby County, TN on June 10th, 1909.

On July 1st, 1924, Celia's grandson was born to her daughter Ada. Named Stanley King BELCHER Jr. this little boy died almost three years later on June 14th, 1927 of bronchial pneumonia. Baby Stanley was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery.

On May 28th, 1947, Celia lost her 2nd husband Lux and buried him in Forest Hill Cemetery.

On January 4th, 1954, Celia died in "Stonewall Nursing Home" of cerebral thrombosis due to arteriosclerosis (had hypertension disease). Her birthdate of 9/18/1863 and parents John H. COCKE & Mary DAVIDSON were listed on her death certificate #54-01494. Daughter Ada "Mrs. S. BELCHER" of Kimbrough Towers was the informant.
