She was surrounded by family and friends at her passing. Lor Raine was many things to many people. She was called Mom, Grandmother, Aunt Lor Raine, Schatzi, Aunt Raine and above all, friend. Lor Raine was born to Wilhelm and Emma Braune on a farm outside of Marion. She entered school speaking only German in Marion and was one of six Marion High School graduates of 1947.
Lor Raine started working at Marion State Bank and continued working within the financial industry until her retirement from Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union's Student Loan Department in 1995. She felt blessed to have helped so many young adults realize their dream of a college education.
During her time on earth, she spent 57 years with her husband, partner and best friend Gale Harper. Gale preceded her in death August 9, 2012. Lor Raine and Gale had a wonderful life together and did many things as a couple. Lor Raine was a lifelong member of Cross Lutheran Church. They were active in their church, nine and 10 pin bowling leagues, braille book making, traveling and above all spoiling their grandchildren.
Lor Raine had a green thumb and always had beautiful flowers and thriving vegetables planted in her yard. She was the constant "supervisor" in all activities involving the lake and the many adventures there. Everyone was sure to have their special dish prepared a specific way if they were at the lake during lunch or dinner. Lor Raine was a gracious host and made everyone feel welcome in her home. Guests always went to bed with a full stomach and woke up to a hot breakfast and a pot of coffee.
Her home was always open and she always helped a friend in need. There was not a person who met her who didn't leave with their own Lor Raine story. She impacted so many people with her religious devotion, life experience and feisty sense of humor."
