JOHSTON CITY -- Opal M. Parks, 74, died at 11:02 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at Herrin Hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with the Rev. Don Travelstead officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery in Creal Springs. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

JOHNSTON CITY -- Opal M. Parks, 74, passed away at 11:02 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, in Herrin Hospital.

Opal was born Aug. 18, 1938, in Smithland, Ky., to Frank McDonald and Florence (Bozarth) Bradshaw.

She married Lester "Junior" Parks on Oct. 22, 1954, in Salem, and together they shared more than 46 years of marriage until his death March 16, 2001.

She was a homemaker. Opal loved to play bingo at the KC's on Monday and Thursdays. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include daughter, Carol Parks of Johnston City; son, Dale Branche and wife, Annette, of Freeman Spur; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Forrest McDonald of Brookport; and sister, Wilma Gibbs of Harrisburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester Parks; son, Larry Parks; and two brothers.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Travelstead officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery in Creal Springs. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
