Born March 12, 1954, Donald was a son of the late Oscar and Stella Kirk Atwood.
Donald was interested in old cars and was a NASCAR fan. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School, he was employed as a coal miner with Eccles No. 5 Coal Mines. Donald was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his sons, Ryan and Preston Atwood; brother, Ralph Edward Atwood.
Those left to cherish his memories, include his sister, Phyllis Sheets of Mt. Hope, Peggy Jones and husband Kester of Scarbro; brothers, Thomas Atwood and wife Margaret of Scarbro, John Atwood of Crab Orchard; nieces, Haley and Abigail Newman; nephew, Michael Atwood and special thanks to Jeff Bragg, who was Donald's caretaker.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor Randy Mann officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
