Venie, as she was commonly known, married James Silas "Jim" Guffey, son of Ephraim Monroe & Susan Elizabeth Willmon Guffey, on December 8, 1912, in Section, Alabama (Jackson County). Jim & Venie became the parents of six children - Granville Curtis, William Arthur, Robert Freeman, Myrtle Nell, Melvin Bernard, and Linda Fay.

Jim & Venia made the cross-country move to California circa 1938, settling in California in 1939.
