William Sanford Martin, 74, of Amherst, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, October 1, 2012 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Joyce Lawhorne Martin. Born August 25, 1938 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Abraham and Gracie Francis Martin and was also preceded in death by one brother, Giving Martin and two sisters, Shirley Martin and Ruth Mayberry. He was retired from Lynchburg Foundry and was a member of Wesleyan U.M. Church. He was a dedicated farmer and family man. Mr. Martin is survived by six children, Wilfred Sanford Martin and wife Julie, David Randall Martin, Melissa M. Massie and husband John, Amy M. Maxey and husband Danny, Gregory K. Martin and wife Jennifer, and Cheryl M. Christian and husband Timmy; one brother, Cecil Martin and wife Lisa of Concord; a brother-in-law, Ed Martin of Madison Heights; nineteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and Mr. Martin's close, special friend, Lisa Justice and her daughter, Kayla Justice.. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Mark Grooms and Pastor Dwayne Martin officiating. Interment will follow at the Schaar Family Cemetery in Amherst. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the funeral home and other times at the home of Greg and Jennifer. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alan B.
