Dorothy Spiro Maddock, age 82, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at her daughter's home in St. Clair Shores, MI. Dorothy was born September 29, 1929 in Chicago to Ralph Herbert and Margaret (Brown) Spiro. She graduated from Michigan City Elston High School in 1947 and received her Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University in 1952 where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She received her Master's Degree from Valparaiso University in 1973. Dorothy was a teacher in the Portage Township Schools for 20 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and was an Alpha Associate with Tri Kappa.
On August 21, 1971 she Married George H. Maddock, who preceded her in death February 20, 2008. Survivors include two children: Diann Simmons (Jerry Wendt) of St. Clair Shores, MI and Douglas (Diane) Simmons of Twain Harte, CA; four grandchildren: Rachel (Ben Hughes) Westergren, Kelly (Shannon) Simmons, Kristi (Jake) Radetich and Kody Simmons; two step-children: Marcia (Dan) Lowe of New Castle, PA and Kerry (Norvin) Conway of Indianapolis; two step-grandchildren: Sandra (Dave) Friedrichsen and Shannon Conway. She was preceded in death by step-son, Michael Maddock.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 28 at 11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church, 2610 N. Campbell St., Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or VNA Hospice of Porter County.
