George C. Woodward, 70, Eliza, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine, Iowa.

Cremation rites were accorded. Private burial will be at a later date at Eliza Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Woodward was born Jan. 19, 1936, in Muscatine, the son of Charles and Vesta Smith Woodward. He married Nancy R. Hall on Sept. 18, 1968, in Eliza.

He attended the Glancey and Muscatine schools.

He farmed the family farm all of his life retiring in 2003. He was a School Land Commissioner for Eliza Township and was a member of the Eliza Creek Cemetery Board. He served as township trustee for many years and was a member of the Mercer County Historical Society. He enjoyed fishing, camping and genealogy.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cindy Dircks and husband Randy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Susan Woodward of Winona, Minn.; two sons, George A. Woodward of Eliza and James Woodward and Becca Cobb of Kankakee, Ill.; two granddaughters, Carrie and Amanda; two grandsons, Dustin and Dallas; and two sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons.
