Dr. W. F. Morrill, one of the oldest and best known residents of this city, died this morning at his home, 1309 East Main street, after an illness of several years of an asthmatic affection. While he was not bedfast until the past few days and was often seen on the streets he was in a feeble condition and his death did not come unexpectedly. Dr. Morrill was eighty-three years old and was a brother of United States Senator Justin Morrill, of Vermont, who died a few years ago, after having served a longer time in the senate than any other member of that body. He is survived by his wife and four children, Nathaniel Morrill and Miss May Morrill, of this city, and Randall Morrill and Mrs. Cora Merrill, of Chicago. He also leaves two brothers, Amos Morrill, of Stratford, Vt., who is ninety-three years old, and Sidney Morrill, of New York, who is ninety-five years old. Dr. Morrill came to this city from Vermont in 1852 and had lived here since then with the exception of a few years when he was in South America. He was a dentist by profession and while a resident of Rio Janeiro was court dentist to Emperor Dom Pedro, of Brazil. On his return to this country he again located in this city and followed his profession until a few years ago. He was a life long Republican and always took an intense interest in the welfare of his party. He was a writer of ability and until the past few years was a frequent contributor to the newspapers. He was a genial citizen and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. - New Albany Weekly Tribune 17 Jul 1908
