82, son of Louis Mockbee and Pearl Wolfe Mockbee, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2003, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born at home on a farm in Pendleton County in 1920. He spent his early childhood there and then his family moved to Falmouth. He served in World War II, after which he returned to Falmouth and met and married his wife, Marcella Ray Reeves, daughter of Charles and Julia Reeves. He then served 25 years in the Air Force, managing Officers' Clubs and base personnel. After retiring as a Lt.Col., he worked for the American Red Cross for 14 years. He then moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he sold real estate briefly, volunteered extensively, played golf and spent time with his family. Throughout his life, he returned to Falmouth regularly to visit with family and friends. He was well-known for riding a bicycle backwards in the Pendleton County parade every year. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and caring for others.
He had three children, Montgomery Lee, Melody Lynn, and Joy Renee. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marcella, daughters Joy and Melody, son-in-law Mark, of Tucson, granddaughter Melody, of Denver, niece Linda Sue Mockbee, of Falmouth, cousin Buellah Cottingham, of Indiana, and long-time Falmouth friends, Carol and Nancy Houchen, Cliff Bonar, and Maybelle Sandy. A memorial service in Falmouth will take place at a future date, as yet undetermined.
