10/13/1940 ~ 9/30/2012
MIDVALE, UT-Surrounded by her family, our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend Mavis "Honey" Ewell passed away on September 30, 2012. Her tiny frail body couldn't fight the battle with ALS any longer.
Born on October 13, 1940 to Rulon and Irene Nielson in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mavis graduated from Richfield High School and married her high school sweetheart and love of her life Darrell Byran Ewell on June 5, 1958. Their marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on July 18th, 2002 for time and eternity. During their 48 years together they worked side by side raising a family, farming, fishing and laughing. After Dad's death, she later married Marshall "Dusty" Duffield and although they divorced, they remained friends.
Mom was so active, full of life and always on the go. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends. She loved bowling and cherished her many friends there. Mom was always up for playing cards and trips to Wendover.
She is survived by her children Dale (Pam) Ewell, Chris Ewell, Ted (Gina) Ewell, Callie Ewell Esparza, nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, sisters Doris Bohman and Kathy McNeill, brother Jay Nielson and extended family.
Preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Dawn and husband Darrell.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her best friend Donna Clark for the love and kindness she gave to Mom for the past 53 years.
We welcome family and friends to the graveside service Wednesday, October 3rd at 12:00 p.m. in the Rest Haven area of Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made in Mom's name to the Utah Food Bank or the Human Society of Utah.
