Born in London, England, on March 9th, 1869, Arthur George Hopkins, after receiving his education at St. Marks College, Chelsea, came to Canada in 1885 as a farm pupil with John Gardhouse and Sons, Weston, ON, where he remained for the next five years.
Having decided to take up Scientific Agriculture as a career, he realized that intensive study and training would be required to give him a complete understanding and knowledge of his chosen profession.
In furthering his education, he obtained a VS degree from the Ontario Veterinary College; a Diploma in Agriculture from the Ontario Agricultural College; a Bachelor of Agriculture from Ames Agricultural College; DVM from Iowa State College; MDV from McKillip College, Chicago IL; and a BSA (ad eundem) from the University of Saskatchewan.
Dr. Hopkins was married three times. His first wife, Ellen Marion Dewar, died in 1896. To this union was born a daughter--Dorothy. In 1900 Dr. Hopkins married Jean Scott Habkirk, who died in 1905. To this marriage were the twins Leonard and Helen, and another son George. In 1908, Dr. Hopkins married Mrs. Edith A. Jones, nee Sealy, a widow with one daughter, Gladys. To Dr. A. G. and Edith Hopkins were born the following: Phyllis, Margery Mary, Geoffrey Arthur, Audrey Anne, Betty Jacqueline, and John William.
