Rancher Brandes Dies at 84
Charlie Lee Brandes, 84, of 905 N. Navarro, life-long resident of Victoria County, died at 2:44 pm Sunday in a local hospital after a month's illness.
Mr. Brandes, member of a pioneer family, was a rancher and was a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and a member of the Victoria County Farm Bureau. He helped organize the first baseball team in Victoria.
He was born Sept. 7, 1889 in Victoria County, son of the late Ernest Charles and Anna Marie Konrad Brandes. His wife, Emma Grace Brandes, died in August, 1971.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. John Newton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of Colonial Funeral Home.
The body will lie in state at the funeral home until 12:45 p.m. Tuesday when it will be taken to the church.
Survivors include a son, Charles Allen Brandes of Telferner; a sister, Mrs. Mary Ryan of Taft; a brother, Leslie J. Brandes of Victoria; and four grandchildren, Mrs. Pam Schulze of Arlington, and Kathleen, Annaclare and Tami Sue Brandes, all of Telferner.
The family has requested that if friends so desire, contributions may be made to the Shrine Crippled Childrens Hospital, or to a favorite charity.

Dr. John Newton will officiate, with burial in Memorial park Cemetery under direction of Colonial Funeral Home.
The body will lie in state at the funeral home until 12:45 p.m. Tuesday when it will be taken to the church for services.
Pallbearers will be Ray Fimbel, Bobby Jacobs, Jim Hartman, Johnny Huckman, G. D. Scott Jr., and William Riggs. Honorary pallbearers will be Oliver Wedemeier, Leslie Kickendahl, Burrell Jones, Norvel McCauley, Jack Morrison, Barney Daniels and M. I. Stephens Sr.
