Keith P. Abbott, D.D.S. of Grand Island, formerly of Columbus, died Tuesday, October 9, 2012 in Grand Island.
Keith P. Abbott, D.D.S. was born April 12, 1923 in Pender, NE to Joel and Marie (Cain) Abbott. He graduated from Guardian Angel High School in West Point, NE in 1940. Keith entered Creighton University in Omaha and received his B.S.D. in 1944 and graduated from Creighton Dental School in 1946. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity. Keith also served in the Army Reserve from September 18, 1940 until June 4, 1942. He entered the Army Specialized Training Program at Creighton University, completing it in 1944. Keith was appointed a Captain in the Army on October 26, 1949. He was stationed in Tokyo, Japan for 27 months as a dentist. He was discharged on March 1, 1954 as a dentist in the USAR.
Keith married Isabella Yung on December 29, 1945 and celebrated 66 years of marriage. Keith had his practice in Columbus from 1949 until 1990.
Keith was a life member of the American Legion, VFW, and the DAV. He was a member of the Lions Club, and the Elks Club for 59 years. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church where he served as an usher and commentator. Keith was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, served as a Scotus Central Catholic High School Board member and President, and was member and past president of the Shamrock Club. Keith belonged to several dental associations including being a 50 year member of the Nebraska Dental Association, past President of the North Nebraska Dental Association, served as a Trustee of the Nebraska Dental Association, member of the International College of Dentistry, Board member at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of NE, and from 1971 until 1983, served as the President of the Nebraska Dental Service Corporation.
Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. Burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
