Elizabeth Jane Reed was born in Pennsylvania. She married George R. Charlton on March 17, 1872 in Honey brook, Pennsylvania. The family came to Illinois in 1881 and to Greenview in 1886. Nine children were born to them. After the death of her husband, George, she moved to Detroit, Michigan where she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Bessie Mae and Howard W. Benway. When she died, her remains were brought back to Greenview and the funeral was held at the Presbyterian church there, conducted by Rev. N. F. Chapman. Elizabeth was laid to rest with her husband, George R. at Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview, Il.
