Richard "Rich" Atherton, husband of Gloria "Reedy" and Dad of Lori and Richy, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Oct. 10, 2012. A Wonderful, Loving Husband, He was dad to Turney, Faith, Grandpa to Tiffany and Andrew, Tyler and Kim, Michael, Marissa and Mason. He was The Cool Great-Grandpa of Madelyn. He was a master of all trades. He enjoyed Hunting and really enjoyed Fishing in his retirement years. He was a craftsman, He made Sassy-Frass Walking Sticks, Lamps, Wishing Wells, Owls, Candle-Sticks and a Special Ring for his wife Gloria. They shared 51 Wonderful years. His family was his Life.
He worked for Van Dorn Iron Works, Carpenter Town Coke Ovens, and General Electric. He was a plant manager for Allegheny Heat Treating, a job which he loved. He volunteered for Downtown Kittanning Christmas Lights.
In retirement years he worked for Jackie's Flower Shop and Rite Aid. He Loved his wife and planting cucumbers and onions with His Great-Granddaughter, Madelyn Paige Graham.
His Family is: Lori and Turney Luke, Richy and Faith "Walp" Atherton. Grandchildren: Tiffany "Luke" and Andrew Graham, Tyler and Kimberly "Harris" Luke, Michael, Marissa and Mason Atherton. Great-Grand-Daughter, Madelyn Graham. He has a Special Sister: Kathy and Husband Dirk Powell. His Mother: Janetta Atherton. Brother: Ron and Wife, Glenna. Brother: Don and Wife: Barbara. Several Nieces and Nephews. Brother-In-Law: Tim and Wife Cassandra Reedy. Sister-In-Law: Gay and Husband John Zolocsik.
He was preceded in death by his Dad: Ralph "Crabbie" Atherton. In-Laws: Willard "Gype" and Dasibel Reedy.
He was a member of the Kittanning First Church of God.
Friends and family will be received from 7-9 PM on Friday, October 12, 2012 and from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning.
Additional visitation will be from 1 PM until the time of funeral services at 2 PM on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the funeral home with the Rev. Gale Winning officiating.
