When she was three years old she moved with her Mother and Sister Nancy to Cedar Rapids IA. She was confirmed at Daniels Park Presbyterian Church.She worked as a nurses aide at Mercy Hospital in the childrens department following high school graduation. She later enlisted in the Waves as a Corpsman for the Navy for four years. At the Navel base in Annapolis Maryland she met a corpsman, Robet Martin Ferrick. After Barbara completed her Navy enlistment, they were married in the Chapel at Camp Pendelton Navel base CA. Robert remained in the Navy for over twenty years and they resided at several different bases. Barbara returned to Cedar Rapids for one year while her husband was stationed overseas in 1956. When Robert retired from the Navy in 1970, they bought a home in Vista CA. They adopted two children. Barbara was adopted by her step-father Karl R. Clendening in September 1991. Barbara was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1992 and died a few months later. Her husband was also diagnosed with cancer and died ten weeks after Barbara.
