Ole Mama was a beautiful woman, especially in her younger years. Even as she aged with grace, she was known for always dressing like a lady. She would not go to the local grocery store without the proper dress, hat and shoes. Any time you went to see her, she was always dressed and wore an apron.
Myra Eulalie Helmer was affectionately called "Ole Mama" by her grandchildren. She was a kind and loving grandmother that doted on her grandchildren all the time. They loved going to stay with her and their grandpa. "Ole Mama" was a great cook, but only cooked one thing at a time. She almost always kept tea cakes in a pillow case ready for enjoyment.
Ole Mama was a bird fancier and Aunt Irene would mail her parakeets on a regular basis.
Bathing at their home was always a lot of fun. Ole Mama always had scented soap and that made a difference.
For many years (in the 1960's), I recall going to family reunions at her place. The old homestead has since been torn down, but I still recall it. She had rockers on the front porch and a nicely screened in back porch.
