Sister Catherine was born Oct. 17, 1892 at Antigo, Wis., daughter of the late Louis and Anna Reindl Novotny. She entered the Convent in 1911, professed her vows in 1914 and received her B.A. degree from Catholic University, Washington D.C. and M.A. degree from Columbia University, New York City. She earned additional credits from Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska. Sister taught at St. Francis Xavier, Petoskey, Michigan, St. Ambrose, Ironwood, Michigan, Guardian Angels, West Point, Nebraska, St. Joseph, Waukesha, Wisconsin, Sacred Heart, Sherwood, Wisconsin, St. Theresa's, Appleton, Wisconsin, and was principal in addition to teaching at St. Joseph, Green Bay, Wisconsin, St. Mary's, Kaukauna, Wisconsin, St. Nicholas, Zanesville, Ohio, Holy Family, Lindsay, Nebraska, St. John, Antigo, Wisconsin, and St. Wendels in Cleveland, Wisconsin. Since retiring in 1971, Sister has resided at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity and two sisters, Miss Mildred Novotny of Petaluma, California and Mrs. Regina Murphy of Carson City, Nevada. Friends may call at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc, 4 pm to 8 pm this Thursday, where a memorial service will be at 7 pm. Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
