Jim, of Sugar Land, passed away while enjoying his life's passion at his greenhouse in Richmond.

He resided with his family in Groesbeck, Texas until adulthood. He was a graduate of Sam Houston State University and in 1956 began his coaching career in China, Texas. He also coached at Silsbee and Groesbeck High Schools, retiring from his coaching career from Beaumont High in 1974.

He fulfilled his dream in horticulture, owning and operating Rand's Florist and Nursery in Beaumont. In 1981, he began a 20 year career as a horticulture sales representative for Ball Seed Co. of Chicago, IL, retiring in 2002.

He was a man of many talents, loved plants, sports, and making people laugh. He lived for his children, grandchildren, and the Lord. He will be remembered as the "Plant Man" of New Territory. He was an active member of Parkway United Methodist Church and participant of the "Empty Nesters" bible study group. He shared his passion for plants by making the flower beds around the church beautiful.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mickey Rand, and survived by his wife of 49 years, Charlotte Caraway Rand; one son, Rex Rand and wife Kim, two daughters, Paula Rand Sessions and Renee Rand Cesmirosky and husband Joe; fourteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Randall Rand, Billy Tom Rand and Glendall Rand and one sister, Peggy Smith.

The family will hold visitation and a celebration of his life at Parkway UMC, 5801 New Territory Blvd., Sugar Land, 77479. Funeral Services will be held in Silsbee, Texas at Farmer Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Silsbee.
