Martin Alexander

Martin Alexander, 82, Pocahontas, died Monday May 30, at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, Pocahontas, with the Rev. L. J. Hoffman celebrating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Pocahontas.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy, Pocahontas; sons, Eugene Alexander and Gerald Alexander, both of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

He was born in Rolfe, where he graduated from high school. He later worked with various businesses in Rolfe, including the J. R. Hakes store. In 1927, he married Lucy Shors in Pocahontas, and they made their home there. He owned and operated several businesses, including Shors and Alexander Grocery, Pocahontas, and Pocahontas Produce, Pocahontas. He also worked several years for the Shimon Auto Co., Pocahontas. He retired in 1963 and traveled with his wife to Texas during the winter seasons. He moved to Parkridge Manor, Des Moines, in May.
