Thomas Corbin Bennett was born near Camden, Preble County Ohio April 12, 1840 and died on his farm near Delphos, Kansas March 20, 1909. He was the eighth child of Nelson and Margaret Mosgrove Bennett. He spent his early life on the farm where he was born and when twenty-one years of age he enlisted in the 54th regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry. After serving three years he re-enlisted and served until the close of the war, when he returned to his boyhood home. On Sept 22, 1870 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Root Chadwick, daughter of Clinton and Orilla Chadwick. To this union three children were born, Lurton, Anna and Leonard; all of whom with his wife survive him. He leaves a wife, three children, a brother, as sister and many other relatives to mourn his departure. The deceased with his family moved to Kansas in 1884 and settled on the farm where he died. Soon after his removal to Kansas he and his wife gave their hearts to Christ and united with the Presbyterian Church of Delphos and he has lived a true Christian life ever since, and died in the hope of Christ as his Savior. He was one of the trustees of this church at the time of his death. He had been a member of the IOOF Lodge for many years, and also a member of the GAR. Mr. Bennett had been a sufferer from heart disease for many years, rapidly growing worse for the last year and culminating in his death last Saturday night. He will be missed by his family and wife, by brother and sister and the many relatives and by all his friends who were all that knew him, by the church which he loved and served faithfully; he will be missed by the GAR, as their ranks are fast thinning out; he will be missed by the Delphos Lodge No. 149 IOOF. But we all bow to the will of Him who doeth all things well, knowing that what is our loss is his gain.
