JERRY LEE PAYNE, SR. 47 years of age of Grundy, VA passed away Thursday, April 1, 2004 at Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy, VA. Born in Buchanan County, November 11, 1956 he was the son of the late Carlos Lee Payne and Verna Johnson Payne. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, attended Southwest Virginia Community College, formerly employed with United Coal Corp. and was employed with Teco Coal Corp.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant son: Joey Payne and his half-brother: Darrell Dean Payne.
He is survived by his step-mother: Louanna Payne of Oakwood, VA; two sons: Jerry Lee Payne, Jr. of Oakwood, VA and fiancee Lindsay Honaker of Pilgrim Knob, VA, Barry Scott Payne and wife Cynthia Dawn of Cedar Bluff, VA; tow sisters: Sherry Lynn Stell of Dandridge, TN, Barbara Blankenship of Martinsville, VA; one brother: Billy Ray Payne of Big Rock, VA; one grandson: Jacob Sebastian Payne; special friend: Melissa Ramey of Grudny, VA.
Funeral services for Jerry Lee Payne, Sr. will be held Sunday, April 4, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, VA with ReverendAndy Maynard and Elders: E. C. Honaker and Jimmy Kerr officiating. Burial will follow in the Mullins Cemetery on Estep Ridge, Paynesville, WV.
Active Pallbearers will be Sheriff Ray Foster, Wes Clevinger, Grady Jackson, Danny Dales, Paul Hardin, Craig Fraley, Teddy Yates, Ronnie Stiltner, Matthew Ratliff and Justin Stell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Employees of Teco Coal Corp. and Ken Foster.
