THOMAS JEFFERSON WALKER PASSES AT HOME.

Thomas Jefferson Walker , 51, business man of Columbia and former resident of Barnwell, died yesterday morning at his home 2703 Millwood Avenue, after a period of declining health extending through the last few years.

Although he had been in declining health for the last several years, it was not until recently that his condition took a turn for the worse.

He was born 51 years ago in Barnwell County and was graduated from Clemson College in the class of 1898. He saw service in the Spanish American War, serving with distinction with the Signal Corp. at Puerto Rica. Twenty-eight years ago he moved to Columbia. Mr. Walker was in the Insurance business in Columbia and for a time Augusta was connected with a dry goods business in Columbia and also traveled as a salesman.

A man of many fine qualities and highly esteemed by those who new him, news of his death has caused much sorrow in Columbia and elsewhere.

Besides his aged mother, Mrs. Sarah Walker of Asheville, and his widow, who before marriage Miss Lula A. Furtick, he is survived by two brothers. Buel Walker of Asheville and Wylie S. Walker of Columbia; a sister Mrs. Loula Maipass of Augusta; two sons, Lieut. Thomas Jefferson Walker, Jr., in the United States Marine Aviation Corp. station at Pensacola, and Irving S. Walker of Baltimore.

Funeral services will be held at 5 o'clock this afternoon at his late residence, 2703 Millwood Avenue, conducted by the Rev. F. Clyde Helms, pastor of Shandon Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. A. J. Foster. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

The pallbearers will be; E. J. Best, Ben Taylor, Frank Phillips, W. P. Etchison, C. A. Rippy, Claude Powell, John Rivers and W. L. Jumper.
