Son of Kenneth & Donna (Dugan) Iwan.
1st Lt. US Army - Died of injuries received during combat at Fullujah, Iraq, when his convoy was under attack. He was in the process of directing his dismounted troops when his Bradley was struck by an RPG. His actions merited a Bronze Star and the Purple Heart medals.

Enlisted in the United States Army in September of 1994, and served until his discharge in 1997. He enrolled at the University of Nebraska, where he graduated with a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice. During this time, Ed was in the ROTC program, and duly enlisted in the National Guard and Army Reserves. In December of 2001, Ed returned to the Army as 2nd Lieutenant. Ed was stationed in Germany in February of 2002, serving in Kosovo for a year as well as several other locations. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on June 22, 2003. In January of 2004, Ed was deployed to Iraq.

Survivors: parents, Kenneth and Donna, Albion; sisters, Katherine "Kate" Boer, Ginger Iwan, both Omaha; grandmothers, Frances Iwan, Catherine Dugan, both Albion.

Preceded in death by his brother, Matthew (Find A Grave Memorial 58426772); grandfathers; uncles.

Services at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Albion and at cemetery with full military honors.
