He was a retired welder, machinist and founder and former owner of Yorktown Machine and Implement Company. He helped out on the family farm in the New Breman Community learning about farming and repairing the farm equipment. In the early 1940's he started his machinist career and jobs involving electrical work on motors and refrigeration. He became co-owner of Kennedy Iron Works for 10 years and moved to Yorktown in 1958. He bought a machine shop where he did blacksmith work, built pump jacks, cattle trailers of all sizes and all types of farm machinery repair. In 1965 he built the current location and progressed into the Case Tractor Company franchise in 1968. He proudly kept the franchise going 31 years through many hard times and droughts. He worked at a job he lovced until his health would no longer allow.
He was a member of the Yorktown Church of Christ and devoted Christian all his life.
He is preceded in death by parents, wife Carolyn Rokohl Ahrens, second wife Anita Gonce Ahrens, brothers Harold Ahrens, Raymond Ahrens and Elo Ahrens.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6 pm at Floresville Church of Christ, Wednesday, Oct 17, 2012. Visitation will be 10 am - 11 am at Finch Funeral Chapel, Thursday, Oct 18, 2012 with funeral service following at 11 am. Interment to follow at Westside Cemetery.
