James A. Abbey, 69, of 207 E. Warrington Road died Thursday at home after a long illness.
Mr. Abbey was a life resident of Syracuse. He retired as a mason with Bricklayers Union Local 28 in 1984. He was a graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy, where he was active in the athletic department.
He was a communicant of St. James Church. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a former member of American Legion Post 1468.
Surviving are his wife, the former Sue Wild; six daughters, Meg Horning and Kristen Galimi, both of Camillus, Beth Cullen of Fairport, Karen Wickersham of Syracuse, Maureen Morgan of DeWitt and Kathryn Jannetti of Onondaga Hill; two brothers, William of Syracuse and Jack of LaFayette; three sisters, Betty Carter and Pat King, both of Syracuse, and Peggy Dauler of Camillus; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. in St. James Church. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 1 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home, 4612 S. Salina St.
