Rev. Paul Malloy Guffey was the son of Ephraim Monroe Guffey and the former Miss Susan Elizabeth "Bettie" Willmon.

He married Vela Mae Morgan on December 5, 1931, in Marshall County, Alabama. To this union was born four children - Dual Frances (Holland), Betty Sue (McKenzie), Kenneth Wayne, and Cherry Darlene (Whitley).

After laying down the plow on Gunter's Mountain, Paul and his family moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where his daughter, Dual, who had recently married, was living. Here the family attended services at Griffin atop Lookout Mountain for awhile before working to establish the Scenicland Free Holiness Church, where Guffey was pastor for a number of years.

In the mid-to-late, 1960's, Paul again relocated to Sand Mountain, where he worked under his oldest brother, Will, at the Higdon Free Holiness Church. Once Will became unalbe to pastor the church, Paul became the full-time pastor of the church, where he served until his death.

Paul's funeral was held Sunday, May 5, 1996, at the Higdon Free Holiness Church. Officials were Bro. David Jones, Bro. Hoyt Dalton, and Bro. Edwin Spurgeon - Paul's grand-nephew, and successor as pastor of the Higdon Church.
