Dimple Mae Smith Godwin was the daughter of Ottie Haskel Smith and the former Miss Sarah Magalene Hart. She married Almer Newton Godwin; and to this union was born children - Edna Joyce (Brown), Brenda Sue (Mitchell/Holmes), Shirley Mae (McDaniel), Kathleen (West), Judith Ann, Jerry Haskle, and Jimmy Newton.

Dimple Mae Godwin, 87, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver who enjoyed fishing and quilting. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Almer Godwin; parents, Ottie and Sarah Smith; brothers, Jr., Edward, Bernice, Jabo Smith; sister, Jenny Samson.She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Emmery Brown, of Flat Rock, Ala., Brenda and Derace Holmes, of Trenton, Ga., Shirley McDaniel, of Rossville, Ga., Kathy and Rayburn West, of Bryant, Ala.; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Judy Godwin, of Flowery Branch, Ga., Jerry and Susan Godwin, of Sylvian Springs, Ala.; sisters, Faye and Bobby Carter, of Flat Rock, Ala.; sister-in-law, Alice Smith; brothers, Harley and Sis Smith, of Rainsville, Ala., Buford and Blicker Smith, of Bridgeport, Ala.; 18 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; host of friends. Funeral services were noon Saturday in the chapel of Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Clay Moreland officiating. Interment followed in Oak Lawn Memorial Park.Visitation was 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Arrangements by Moore Funeral Home, Bryant, Ala.
