Harpswell - Robert A. Field, 62, died on Thursday, January 26, 2012, in Harpswell, surrounded by family and friends. Bobby's wish was to die at home when he was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer due to agent orange in early December. His life partner and primary care giver, Cindy French, lovingly fulfilled that wish with support from family & friends.
He was born on April 21, 1949 in Brunswick, Maine, the son of the late William N. Field, Jr. and Florence Prince Coombs.
Bobby joined the United States Marine Corps in 1968, serving two and a half years. He was deployed twice to Vietnam. After his discharge in 1970, he was employed by Bath Iron Works, then Coastal Economic Development. He found his true passion when he became a self employed Shellfish Harvester, which he continued until he could no longer work in September 2011.
Bobby was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. It didn't matter if he knew them or not. He was a proud father and grandfather.
Bobby was predeceased by his wife, Lynette Breton Field, in 1986. He is survived by his life partner, Cindy French of Harpswell; two sons, Dana Field and his wife, Karena, of Wiscassett; Jason Field and his wife, Kelly of Harpswell; one daughter, Shelly Wilson and her husband, David, also of Harpwell; two step-daughters, Holly Harriman and Erica Perkins; nine grandsons, Jacob, Chandler and Kadan Field, Cody Ayer, Nathan and Cory Reno, David, Austyn and Travis Wilson; three granddaughters, Kristen Field, Sydney Field and Hallie Powell; five brothers, William Field and his wife Cynthia of Topsham; Gilbert Field and his wife, Jackie of Lewiston, Gordon Field and his wife Darlene, Bernard Coombs and his wife Jenny, Brian Coombs and his wife Becky all of Brunswick; three sisters, Ruth Brooks of Durham, Susan Field, Brenda Masse and her husband Rick of Brunswick.; four aunts; one uncle; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life was held by his family at the American Legion Post 202 in Topsham on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at 11:00 AM, with full military honors. His brother, Gordon E. Field, officiated. A Pot-Luck luncheon followed the service. Interment was at the Hillcrest Cemetery in the spring.
