Graveside services were August 22 at the Lizton K of P Cemetery for James R. Landreth Sr., age 92, Lizton, who died August 18 in the South Haven Health Care Center, Montgomery, Alabama. The Pittsboro Masonic Lodge was in charge of the service. David A. Hall Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Born May 28, 1895 in rural Hendricks County, he was the son of Elbert and Amanda (Jones) Landreth. In 1923, he married Kathleen Gibson who survives.
A graduate of Lizton High School and Indiana University, he earned an advanced degree from Butler University in 1938 and was a high school principal and teacher spanning a career of 28 years.
A veteran of World Wars I and II, he continued as an officer in the Air Force Reserves for an additional 10 years. He retired as a civil service training officer for the Air Force after 11 years.
He was a member of the Acacia fraternity, the American Legion, Pittsboro Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch Masons and the Christian Church where he had been an elder for over 50 years.
Survivors in addition to his widow, Kathleen, are a son, James R. Landreth, Jr. of Montgomery, Ala., and daughter-in-law, Jane (Knetzer) Landreth; three grandchildren, Mary Kathleen of San Francisco, James Michael Landreth of Robbins Air Force Base, Ga., and Mrs. Linda Jane Harris of Memphis, Tenn.
