Richard Carver passed away on Wednesday morning after an illness extending over many months. He lacked but a few days of being 97 years of age and up to past his 90th birthday was strong and active. When past eighty he met with an accident while handling a horse which resulted in a broken hip, but in spite of this handicap of eighty odd years he recovered and continued active work for many years.
Richard Carver was born in Herkimer county, Little Falls, New York, January 10, 1826. He was married to Jane Van Allen, September 23, 1849. They later moved to Illinois and in the late sixties settled in Jackson Township, Webster County. They moved to Manson in 1891.
Eight children were born to this union, four of whom survive: Mrs. Vanderhoff, of Clare; Mrs. Reed, of Webb; Mrs. Carrie Marsh, of Humboldt, and J. W. Carver of Dodge Center, Minn.
The funeral will be held Friday at two p.m. from the home of J. W. Carver, grandson of the deceased. The services will be in charge of Rev. J. G. Waterman and interment will be made in Rose Hill cemetery, by the side of his wife, who passed away in 1913.
