Mrs. Mary Jane James, an aged and highly esteemed pioneer resident of the county, passed away at her home in this city last Friday morning. She was past eighty years of age and her death was due to the decline of old age. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Geo. Brechtel, 1421 Tama Street, and at 2:30 from the First M.E. church, of which she had long been a devoted member. The services were conducted by the Rev. Hohanshelt and attended by a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends, burial in Linwood cemetery. The pall bearers were: James Richey, L.W. Johnson, I.N. Stotts, Frank Hiltz, L.M. Shaffter and A.T. Silvers. Mary Jane Alexander was born in Tennessee, but removed to Illinois when a young girl, where on April 7, 1851 she was united in marriage with Jr. J.C. James. The following year, 1852 they came to Boone County and have made this their home since until their death, Mr. James having died about five years ago. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. George Brechtel of Boone, Mrs. Emily Sakes of Idaho and Mrs. Ellen Millspaugh of Washington.
