The funeral for Elwood Handy Sr., 91, of 325 Giles Road, Axton, who died Oct. 20, 2012, at Golden Years Rest Home in Martinsville, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville. Pastor Gary Shupe will officiate. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service Friday at the funeral home.
Handy was born in Fries Oct. 31, 1920, to Elisha Zebedee Handy and Flora Lane Handy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura E. Handy; one sister and one brother.
He retired from the Coast Guard in 1970 and later retired from Bassett Walker.
Surviving are a son, Elwood Handy Jr. of Irisburg; a sister, Loeva Mills of Madison, N.C.; two granddaughters; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
