Master Sergeant Bennett USMC was a passenger on-board US NAVY NATS flight aircraft# 131612. The aircraft was a R6D1 (DC 6) type. While making an approach to Hickham AFB, Hawaii at 0216 AM in the morning from the west. The aircraft impacted "PaliKea" mountain just outside US Naval Magzine,Naval Ammunition Depot NAD (Oahu), Lualualei. No survivors were noted.His home of record was Orange, Calif. He was survived by his wife Mrs. Eugene Bennett & three children Pamela (11),Deborah (5) & David (7 months) of which he had not seen yet.
Bennett had been in the Marine Corps since 1939 and was making the service his career. The family was to join him in Honolulu in two weeks. He was to begin his third tour of duty there.
The Marine Sergeant was a resident of Orange County for six years. In 1949 and 1950, he was Chief of the postal section at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station. Later he was assigned to the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton and went off to Korea. He was returning on-board the aircraft with other members of the division. This site is dedicated to remembrance of this person.
