In 1860, census records show him living in Bellefonte, Jackson County, Alabama with his wife. He also appears on a roll for the "Jackson Rifles" militia company in state service with the Alabama Volunteer Corps (AVC) in 1860.
In 1862, he appears enlisting as a Private in Bellefonte, Alabama under one Captain Francisco Rice in Company K, (McLemore-Starnes') 4th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment.
He passed away in Bellefonte in 1898 at the age of 68. He is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
