H.H. Laing Succumbs In California; Body Is Cremated
Funeral services for Henry Havelock Laing, 69, resident of Iron Mountain for the past 40 years, who
died May 31, following a lingering illness, were held this morning at the Chapel of the Hollywood, Calif. Crematory. His ashes will be brought to Iron Mountain for interment in Cemetery Park.
Mr. Laing, pioneer lumberman of this district & head of the lumber company in this city which bears his name, was born in Buckingham, Quebec, Canada.
He 1st came to Iron Mountain in 1882 & shortly thereafter returned to Canada. Coming back to the city
in 1890 he established the H.H. Laing Lumber Co., now managed by sis son, Roy D. Laing.
The illness from which he died became acute about 2 months & he went to Calif. To recuperate.
Mrs. Laing is still in Calif. & is also in ill health. Beside his widow, 2 daughters & 3 sons survive:
Mrs. Foster Wright, Los Angeles; Mrs. H. G. Phillips, Denver, Colorado; Dr. Grant & Donald Laing, Chicago
& Roy D., Iron Mountain. 4 brothers & 3 sisters also survive: Peter, Denver; Albert, Escanaba, Mich.
David, Kalamazoo, Mich.; Mrs. J. Devine, Mrs. S. MacKenzie & Mrs. A. Lyons, all Canada.
