Louis Dowdall Dies at Grafton
GRAFTON, Nov. 23. — (Special.) - Louis Dowdall, 66, a lifelong resident of Jersey County, died suddenly at his home here while he was carrying firewood into the basement Thursday afternoon. When he failed to return outside after making several trips into the basement, his brother, Edward, who had been outside, investigated and found him lying in the basement. A coroner's Jury attributed death to apoplexy. Previously he had never been known to become ill.
Previous to coming here he had resided in Rosedale. Those surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary Dowdall; a son, Clifford, of St. Louis; two sisters, Mrs. Ida O'Neill of St. Louis and Mrs. Lottie Tonkinson of Grafton; his brother, Edward; and a grand-daughter. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p. m., Saturday at the Baptist Church, here.

Charles L. Dowdall, sixty-five year old resident of Grafton, was found dead in the basement of his home about eight-thirty o'clock Thursday morning by his brother, Edward Dowdall. An inquest was conducted by Coroner William E. Hopper, and it was found that death was caused by a stroke of apoplexy. According to the testimony submitted at the inquest, Mr. Dowdall was apparently in good health Thursday morning. He left the house shortly after eight o'clock to carry wood into the basement of the residence. Later his brother went to the basement and found the body of Dowdall lying on the wood pile. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Dowdall of Grafton; one son, Clifford Dowdall of Grafton; one daughter, Mrs. May Henry of Hull; two sisters, Mrs. John Tonkinson of Grafton and Mrs. Ida O'Neil of St. Louis; and one brother, Edward Dowdall of Grafton. Funeral services were held at the Grafton Baptist Church, Saturday afternoon, November 24th, at two o'clock. Interment was in the Rowden cemetery.
