She was born in Columbus, February 16, 1925, to Harry and Evelyn (nee Burris) Reed, and was a 1942 graduate of Central H.S. After high school, she began her career as a vocalist with George Towne. She then sang with Art Devaney (whom she married) and his orchestra, and together they traveled the country, providing musical entertainment in such places as New York and Miami, as well as Chicago. Later, Peg worked as a paralegal for Workers' Compensation law firms in Ohio. She continued performing throughout her life, both in recitals and as a member of various local theatre groups, including Village Little Theatre, Stadium Theatre, and Independent Players. Peg's passion for life and her great joy in music, books, gardening, and animals was a gift that she shared with her family.
Preceded in death by her husband Walter S. Cook, her parents, her sister Mildred Culp, her son Reed Scoles, and her grandson Brian Lehman. Peg will be missed by her loving children, Megan (Alan) Kent, Alice (Stoney) Biggers, Joan Devaney, and Thomas (Monique) Cook; daughter-in-law, Dianne Scoles; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Private burial will be held at Sunset Cemetery. The family will celebrate her life in coming months. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Peg's memory to your favorite animal shelter.
