Little "Ivan Absher" was born in the Autumn season; 21 October 1941. Ivan was born in the Walnut Grove township. The "Walnut Grove Township" is where my grandmother's family lived. The name "Ivan" is Russian for John. My grandmother's father's name was John Columbus Felts. I am not sure if she knew "Ivan" was Russian for John but she did name him after her father "John Columbus Felts". If she did know that the name "Ivan" is Russian for "John" (How very clever of her).

"Ivan" was 2 months & 27 days old at the time of his death in the Winter Season; 18 Jan 1942 in the Walnut Grove Township, Wilkes, NC. On Ivan's death certificate it is stated that he died from "Colitis" & something like "Colic". My grandmother said he was covered in hives and "that is what she thought he died from". My grandfather is listed as the funeral director on the death certificate. They buried their little son "Ivan" in the Cane Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Ivan's death was a tragic event for the family; and my grandparents never got over it; but they knew they would see "Ivan" in heaven.

I wanted little "Ivan" to have a namesake; so I named my second born son after him. I wanted in some small way to show a remembrance of his life.

Although "Ivans" life was short; he made a lifelong impression on his family. He will never be forgotten; he was loved while he was here and his memory honored.
