He was born May 31, 1939 in Gray County, Kansas, the son of Samuel and Edna S. Spalding Herron. Joe was a lifetime Cimarron resident, and a member of the First Christian Church.
Joe was an avid fan of Cimarron High School sports, attending every football and basketball game he could. He was also very well known in the community due to his very outgoing and friendly nature. He enjoyed walking around Cimarron and visiting with his many friends. Joe was never content to spend his days sitting. He enjoyed living at the Shepherd's Center since he was able to come and go as he pleased, and the staff there was very friendly.
Survivors include: a brother, Ralph Herron, Jetmore; 3 sisters, Vera Robertson, Meade, Wilma Hall, Tacoma, Washington and Beverly Brassfield, Braggs, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Roy, Don, Ellis and Robert Herron and 2 sisters, Ella Mae Vail and Colleen Nutter.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the First Christian Church, Cimarron, with Pastor David Johnson officiating. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 pm Monday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. Burial will be in the Cimarron Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the First Christian Church or the Shepherd's Center both in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 446, Cimarron, Kansas 67835.
