Jerold "Jake" Ellison, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Carlisle, Iowa, died at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, on Tuesday, Oct. 23 after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. The family will greet friends after 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at Scotch Ridge Cemetery.
Jake was born on Dec. 5, 1925, in rural Palmyra, Iowa the son of Orpha (Keeney) & Raymond Ellison. Following graduation from Carlisle High School he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served several years during WWII.
In 1951, he married Harriet Conant in Fayetteville, AR. Together they raised one daughter Jeryl. Early on they lived in Ohio and Wisconsin but spent the majority of their years in Carlisle. He was employed as a truck driver for many years, retiring from Anderson Erickson Dairy after 28 years. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Harriet; a daughter, Jeryl Cox (David); granddaughter, Cameron; sister, Nancy Cameron (Kenneth); brothers, Roland (Marge) and Marvin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Joan Ellison.
