Leafy went to be with her Lord on October 17, 2012 at the age of 99 years 4 months and 26 days.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday October 25 at Bryan City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Wednesday October 24 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.
Leafy was born in Thorndale, Texas May 21, 1913. She was one of four children born to George and Nellie (Worthington) Lightsey. Her parents moved to Robertson County and there she met the love of her life, James B. "J.B." Armstrong. They were married July 21, 1930, and spent over 71 years together before J.B. died February 26, 2002.
Leafy worked as the supervisor of the mailroom for the Texas Agricultural Extension service at Texas A&M University. Agricultural publications were printed and distributed from this facility. She retired after 28 years of service. Leafy was a member of Franklin Shiloh Baptist Church.
Leafy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband J.B., a grandson William Henry "Billy" Armstrong, and a brother Oliver Lightsey.
She is survived by her son, James Clyde Armstrong and his wife Cecil Ann "Mickie" of Wheelock; grandson, Larry Armstrong and his wife Brenda of Arlington, Texas; granddaughter, Rebekah O'Brien and husband Paul of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sister, Gladys Loehr; brother, George Lightsey; great-grandchildren, Khayman Petrie, Patrick, William, Tiernam, Brianna and Michael O'Brien, David Armstrong and Natalie Anderson; great-great-grandchildren, Kaylin and Lauren Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family especially wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Hudson Creek Alzheimer Care Center for their wonderful compassion and care. Further, the family wishes to thank Southern Care Hospice for their assistance.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leafy's memory to Franklin Shiloh Baptist Church, P.O. Box 66, Wheelock, Texas 77882 or Southern Care Hospice.
