Obituary of Evan S. Gaskill "Evan Gaskill died Pleasant Valley , Missouri, September 4, 1891; yesterday evening about 2 o'clock Uncle Evan Gaskill was returning home with a lead of lumber from the pinery 2 1/2 miles SE of Mansfield. His team became frightened at a yoke of oxen and ran away throwing him to the ground, bruising his head and face very badly. The hind wheels passed over his body and right shoulder killing him instantly. He only breathed twice after a man with a team, nearby ran to him. Thus passed away one of Wright County's oldest and best citizens. Father Gaskill came to Wright County over 50 years ago, professed faith in Christ and some 20 years ago joined the Pleasant Valley congregation of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was born Nov 4, 1818. When young he was married to his first wife, name unknown, leaving 4 sons and 1 daughter. Three years ago Uncle Evan was married to a Miss Morris, a young lady who mourns for her departed husband. Father Gaskill's remains were laid to rest in the Pleasant Valley cemetery in the presence of a large congregation of morning friends. The old veterans of the cross stood near and gave hearty assents to the words expressed by the writer: "Well done good and faithful servant".....oldest son, wife, and 2 others buried nearby.
