World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Bampton, England, he served as a Captain in the 1st Battalion, Royal Flying Corps, Northamptonshire Regiment, British Army. On September 25, 1915, in actions near Hulluch, France, Captain Read, went out several times in order to rally parties of different units which were disorganized and retiring.
