Her husband practiced law in Portland, where he was involved in ballot reform.
Kate was socially prominent in Portland, was an amateur writer for newspapers and magazines and a member of Unitarian Society there.
After her husband died, she married James Bates and lived in Massachusetts. After 1918, she lived at Cloverfield Farms, near Olympia, Washington.
